The reality is, as you try to get more specific jobs that meet your skills, interests, and goals, your resume needs to become more specific as well. If your resume worked to get you a job in one industry, it will not necessarily be relevant for another position.

Targeted resumes are helpful because they prove to hiring managers that you have relevant experience and took time to tailor your resume to the job posting. 

For example, if you are looking at a job in a startup that requires certain skills, you may want to edit your resume to include relevant keywords and skills. If you don’t know where to start, sometimes it’s helpful to ask a friend who has a job in a similar industry to the one you’re applying to.
